If there’s a Mount Rushmore of wasted Marvel villains, one of the faces would definitely be James Spader’s Ultron, who stole every scene in his Avengers movie—which, as a whole, was considered kind of a mess.
Spader hasn’t done any movies since Age of Ultron, but it does look like he’s coming out of the woodwork—for another Ultron reprisal. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Spader will be coming back to voice Ultron for the Vision series. No details have been revealed about the role, but it’s possible that Spader won’t have to provide motion capture like he did when they shot Age of Ultron.
Besides video games, Ultron has been pretty forgotten in the live-action cinematic universe. He did get a major arc in Marvel’s What If…? series, but even Spader didn’t come back to reprise the role for that show. If anything, Marvel must have forked over a lot of cash to get him to come back for a Disney+ series.
We don’t know much about the Vision series yet. Besides the fact that it used to be called Vision Quest, the series is said to be focusing on the ‘White Vision’ that we met way back in WandaVision. The show is also said to be the end of a trilogy that started with WandaVision, followed up by Agatha All Along. Besides Paul Bettany expected to reprise the role of Vision, it’s also rumoured that Elizabeth Olsen will also make a cameo as the Scarlet Witch/Wanda Maximoff.
Maybe we’ll get more answers once Agatha All Along comes out Sept. 18 on Disney+.
