James McAvoy may have been the face of the X-Men franchise for a while, but he’s also proven himself to be quite the horror figure with movies like Split and Glass. Now he’s set to take up horror again with the film Speak No Evil, and we have a new trailer showcasing just how unhinged he can get.
Check this out:
The official description for Speak no Evil reads:
When an American family is invited to spend the weekend at the idyllic country estate of a charming British family they befriended on vacation, what begins as a dream holiday soon warps into a snarled psychological nightmare.
From Blumhouse, the producer of The Black Phone, Get Out and The Invisible Man, comes an intense suspense thriller for our modern age, starring BAFTA award-winner James McAvoy (Split, Glass) in a riveting performance as the charismatic, alpha-male estate owner whose untrammeled hospitality masks an unspeakable darkness.
This film is actually a remake of the 2022 Danish movie of the same name which was written by Christian and Mads Tafdrup. Besides X-Men actor McAvoy, the film also stars Mackenzie Davis, Scoot McNairy, and Aisling Franciosi.
Here’s the trailer for the original film just in case you were curious:
We don’t know how this remake will change anything, but it’s always been a lose-lose situation when it comes to these remakes of foreign films. Films get bashed for exact copies of the original, and they also get bashed for changing some things.
With the original film’s bleak ending, maybe the remake can deliver something more hopeful. But then again, that could change the movie entirely. We’ll just have to wait and see what the final product will be in the next few months.
Speak No Evil is set to release in theatres on Sept. 13.
