James Gunn Starts Hinting at His Version of Suicide Squad

James Gunn may have been silenced after the who fiasco from last year, but now he’s back, and he started posting updates on his Suicide Squad film. Just in, he started hinting at which Suicide Squad run from the comics he’ll be drawing influence from. What’s more, we may have a hint on who Idris Elba will be playing in the film.

This was his post on his FB stories:

Ostrander’s run of Suicide Squad took place in the 80s, so you can bet that Gunn himself grew up with those stories. If you look at the cover, we already have appearances from Squad members from the first film like Rick Flagg, Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, and the Enchantress.

What’s interesting though, is this run also included the likes of Bronze Tiger, which some suspect will be the new character that Idris Elba will be playing. In the comics, Ben Turner was considered to be Flagg’s second in command, and he’s considered as one of the “good” guys in the team apart from the other villains.

While Tiger doesn’t really have any metahuman skills, he does have martial arts prowess that puts him toe to toe with Batman. Interestingly enough, some consider him the DC counterpart of Black Panther, so it would make sense that they would want to bring him in at some point.

Just to be clear, Elba playing Bronze Tiger is still speculation, but who else would Elba be playing?

James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad is set to come out Aug. 6, 2021.
