With James Gunn starting a new DC canon, a lot of fans have been wondering what’s going to happen to Matt Reeves’ The Batman starring Robert Pattinson, which seems to take place in his own world. With rumors clashing on whether Pattinson would be the main DCU Bruce Wayne, James Gunn has come out to clarify that won’t be the case.
In a recent talk with Variety, Gunn confirmed that Pattinson is not expected to lead the next solo Batman project titled Brave and the Bold. We don’t know much about the movie yet, but Andy Muschietti (The Flash) is expected to direct, and the movie is said to be focusing on an older Batman having to deal with the fact that he has a son Damian who was raised by a league of assassins to be an efficient killer.
As for Battinson, The Batman Part II is still underway, and DC co-head Peter Safran has confirmed that they’re still waiting on a script from Reeves. He says Reeves has“yet to turn in a full script, but what we have read so far is incredibly encouraging.”
As for any possible follow-ups on The Penguin, it’s still up in the air. Safran continues, “We don’t know,” Safran said. “There are a lot of moving pieces — probably most important Colin [Farrell] himself.” “And 800 pounds of make-up,” Gunn added.
With Battinson’s Gotham set in a more grounded world, a lot of fans have expressed online that they thought it was best if he didn’t share a continuity with Superman or Green Lantern. Hopefully The Batman will continue the ‘Elseworlds’ branding for DC, and open up doors for more obscure characters and alternate versions of heroes to get their own movies.
The Batman Part II is expected to come to cinemas on Oct. 1, 2027.
