A week ago, Hulu (along with Steven Spielberg) had announced that they would be rebooting Animaniacs for a new generation of kids, and the clip was pretty honest to the spirit of the original cartoon. Now we have a full trailer for the series, and it looks as wacky as ever.
Check it out:
Here’s the official synopsis:
They’re back! The Warner brothers, Yakko and Wakko, and the Warner sister Dot, have a great time wreaking havoc and mayhem in the lives of everyone they meet. After returning to their beloved home, the Warner Bros. water tower, the siblings waste no time in causing chaos and comic confusion as they run loose through the studio, turning the world into their personal playground. Joining Yakko, Wakko and Dot, fan-favorite characters Pinky and the Brain also return to continue their quest for world domination.
With the property being under Warner Bros, I was wondering why this wasn’t slated to come out on HBO Max instead. By the looks of it, it looks like Hulu had bought the rights to stream the property, even going so far as to fund two seasons. Even then, I think there could be deal where Yakko, Wakko, and Dot could make it to HBO Max along with the other WB properties.
The series looks interesting, and while I can already imagine a lot of angry fans over the ‘woke’ references like ‘mansplaining’, I think that Animaniacs has always had an educational side, and they have always tackled some more topical issues. I’m very interested to see where it all goes; even Pinky and the Brain look to be commenting on the political climate in some way; and that short shot of a Cyclops looks a lot like Donald Trump.
Catch Animaniacs when it comes to Hulu on Nov. 20.
