Ever since the first trailer released for the live-action How to Train Your Dragon, the movie was met with a lot of pessimism with fans wondering how it was going to top the animated version. With the full movie screening at CinemaCon, some early reactions have come out, and they’re all surprisingly positive.
Here’s what some people have been saying about the movie:
And yeah, social media reactions from #CinemaCon attendees who just saw the whole #HowToTrainYourDragon live-action 2 months in advance are in, and oh boy, the praises are all the way to the roof, with attendees calling #HTTYD a faithful, gorgeous, stunningly realised remake full… pic.twitter.com/2HjKxLMBzQ

Just watched the live-action HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON. Such a fun, heartfelt, epic adventure. The rare animated to live-action remake that truly justifies its existence. All of the emotions and heart from the animated film carry over. The visual effects, especially those to bring… pic.twitter.com/4hfeh8zYPu

Admittedly, not every review is perfect, and there are some that are saying that it really just feels like the original movie; but maybe the film isn’t as soulless as some would consider when it was originally announced.
HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON remake is exactly what you’d expect it to be. I will give it credit in that it’s not as obviously soulless as other live-actions and there are true moments of spectacle here and there. But ultimately it never grows past a feeling of redundancy. #CinemaCon pic.twitter.com/huWO10TkPk

Personally, I love the first two films, but think that the third could have been better. Though I don’t really think the live-action format can add more to the story, I am hoping the success would result in a third movie that delivers a more satisfying ending to the tale of Hiccup and Toothless.
In the meantime, fans can be rest-assured that the live-action How to Train Your Dragon is going to be a crowd-pleaser; then again, we could just be waiting for the more negative reactions to come out once the movie gets a wide release. The same can be said for A Minecraft Movie which was getting a lot of positive buzz before more and more critics started taking a dump on it.
Watch out for How to Train Your Dragon when it comes to cinemas on June 13.
