A lot of Nintendo fans are gearing up for the release of The Super Mario Bros. Movie this April, and Illumination Entertainment has decided to ride along the Super Bowl hype with a new TV spot. The spot essentially plays out like an in-universe ad for Mario and Luigi’s plumbing service, and there’s a neat Easter Egg for longtime Super Mario fans.
Check it:
As some fans online have pointed out, the voice of the woman in the ad is actually provided by Jeannie Elias, the original Princess Peach (or Princess Toadstool) in the Super Mario Bros. Super Show.
Another crazy detail that fans spotted in the trailer is that you can actually see the color of the green screen on Mario and Luigi presumably from when they were shooting the sequence:

Besides that, you can see that a lot of the original character designs from the games were used for Mario and Luigi’s plumbing service, and we also have a hint at the iconic Super Mario theme, which was also played during the scene where Mario is introduced to the Mushroom Kingdom.
Though a lot of people were originally apprehensive to the casting of Chris Pratt as Mario, it looks like the film is going to be one great animated action adventure. Besides the fact that a lot of the film looks great, we also have a lot of Easter Eggs pointing back to the original game, from boss levels to all kinds of other Super Mario charactrs. They even found a way to work Donkey Kong into the film.
Catch The Super Mario Bros. Movie when it hits theaters on April 7.
