Freddie Highmore may be best known as the Good Doctor today, but way back in 2005, he was the face of Charlie Bucket in Tim Burton’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
With the ‘Glasgow Willy Wonka Experience’ going viral last month, Jimmy Kimmel Live has decided to have a dig at the disaster of an event, and they’ve even brought in Highmore to reprise the role of Charlie and continue his story after he inherits the factory from Wonka. Check this out:
Freddie Highmore stars in the world exclusive trailer for the sequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory inspired by the infamous Willy Wonka Experience in Glasgow that left visitors bitterly disappointed.
As someonewho extensively jumped in on the hype of the Wonka Experience when it went viral, I could say that all the references to the event like the Meth-dealing Oompa Loompa and ‘The Unknown’ were great, but I don’t know if this would fly with anyone who didn’t do their research—even the deal with the kids getting a juicebox and the single jellybean actually happened.
We don’t know how much more people can milk the Wonka experience story moving forward, but there have been calls for someone to make a documentary on just how disastrous the whole thing turned out to be. While the actors like the Oompa Loompa and the Unknown managed to get a little attention online, the organizer Billy Coull (dubbed Willy Wanker) has been rightfully bashed online, especially knowing that he tried to generate the scripts for the event with AI, and he’s published 16 AI-generated books on Amazon.
#WillyWonkaExperience organizer Billy Coull says the event ruined his life
"I have lost my friends. I've lost the love of my life. I was made out to be the face of all evil. And genuinely, that's really not the case"
