While Zack Snyder fans may still be trying to get Henry Cavill back as Superman, Michael B. Jordan is already pushing forward with his “Black Superman” project. While fans think that Cavill’s time as Superman is far from over, Cavill believes that all these projects can exist simultaneously.
Taking to The Hollywood Reporter, Cavill was asked about Jordan’s upcoming Superman project, to which he replies, “It’s exciting — Superman’s far more than skin color… Superman is an ideal. Superman’s an extraordinary thing that lives within our hearts. Why not have multiple Supermen going on? Joaquin Phoenix did a wonderful Joker movie; so what if it’s not tied to the rest of [the franchise]? They have multiple Superman comic book storylines happening at the same time.”
While we have no announcement for a Man of Steel sequel, Cavill says that he’s very open to coming back to the DCEU. “There is still a lot of storytelling for me to do as a Superman, and I would absolutely love the opportunity,” he says.
As of now, WB still looks to be figuring out what to do with the DC Universe, especially now that HBO Max has offered for a cheaper avenue for less expensive, experimental projects. While Marvel has been dubbed formulaic by its uniform treatment of films and TV, some think DC still has the potential to find a more unique, creative-driven voice for its upcoming IP. One can only hope.
We don’t know when Cavill will come back as Superman, but he is set to return as Geralt of Rivia when the second season of The Witcher debuts on Netflix on Dec. 17.
