Gotham City Sirens
First Announced/Speculated: December 2016
Director: David Ayer
Screenwriter(s): Geneva Robertson-Dworet
Cast: Margot Robbie (Harleen Quinzel/Harley Quinn) and possibly Jared Leto (Joker). Catwoman and Poison Ivy are expected to star, but no actors have been announced.
Story: Because of the title, based on a comic series of the same name, Harley, Catwoman, and Poison Ivy are likely to team up. As such, the dynamic between the three should be fun to watch. How much of their individual histories will be explored and will they struggle to get along are certainly questions at the fore. Again, based on the ending of Suicide Squad, Joker may have a role to play, as well.
Rumor and Speculation: For now, there aren’t too many rumors swirling. No, WB isn’t offering up details, but that hasn’t stopped David Ayer from throwing out teases of his own. In a recent Twitter post, the director shared an image of Black Mask from the comics. This left many wondering if the famed Gotham gangster would appear in Gotham City Sirens and/or be the big bad. We wouldn’t mind the DCEU focusing a bit on the street-level villains for a change. If so, might we see Nightwing or Batgirl swoop in to relieve tension between Harley’s crew and that of Black Mask? What a thought…
At SDCC 2017, WB shared what films they have planned next for the DCEU. Surprisingly, Gotham City Sirens went without mention. But Suicide Squad 2 made the list, indicating that may lead into whatever the studio and Ayer aim to achieve with GCS.
