Alex Hirsch gave Disney gold when he created Gravity Falls, and now Netflix wants in on his creative input.
According to Variety, Hirsch has just signed on with Netflix to develop new features and series exclusively for them. Netflix’s VP of original content Cindy Holland had this to say about Hirsch coming onboard the Netflix train:
“Alex is an imaginative storyteller with new ideas who’s quickly developed a reputation as a fresh new voice in animation… We couldn’t be more excited to work with him as we continue expanding our adult animated slate.”
As for Hirsch himself, he joked:
“I couldn’t be more excited to join the amazing roster of talent coming to Netflix… Plus it couldn’t hurt to be on The Algorithm’s good side before The Singularity hits. Awesome things are coming!”
Gravity Falls ended way back in 2016, but the show continues to find its way online thanks to the cult status that it has gained on the internet. Besides topnotch animation and production design, Gravity Falls shines with its loveable characters, great story, and pun-tastic humor.
So far, we haven’t gotten any details on what Hirsch has to make for Netflix, but it looks like it’s going to be a lot more adult and less kid friendly. Either way, I’m excited to see what Hirsch has to create with no holds barred.
We have yet to get a release date for Hirsch’s Netflix show, but hopefully we get an update before 2018 ends.
