God of War Already Greenlit for Two Seasons on Amazon

Before the 2020s, there was an ongoing notion that video game adaptations were cursed because none have ever been successful for several years. That all changed though with the success of properties like The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Last of Us.

Now Amazon is looking to adapt God of War with Battlestar Galactica  showrunner Ron Moore, and he confirms that Amazon was so confident in the project, that they already greenlit two seasons.

In a recent interview with Katee Sackhoff during her podcast, Moore explains, “Right now I’m working on an adaptation of this video game called God of War. It’s a big title in the gaming world that Amazon has ordered two seasons of. And They’ve asked me to come in, so I’m literally in the writer’s room working on that. That’s my new thing.”

Moore didn’t reveal any more details about the series, but it is said to be an adaptation of the more recent games which introduces Kratos’ son Atreus. Before that, the God of War games were mostly fantastical revenge stories where Kratos goes up against the Greek pantheon of gods only to have him murder each one in brutal fashion.

The reboot directed by Cory Barlog is considered to be a maturing of the series which actually explores Kratos’ personal relationship with his son. Even if that is the case, there’s still a lot of room for the series to explore Kratos more gruesome past.

It would be hilarious if the flashbacks were the exact same ones from the PS2 cutscenes, but someone will probably make that edit when the series officially releases.

No release date has been set for the God of War series, but watch out for it on Amazon Prime Video.
