Go-Go Mystery Machine: Scooby-Doo is Getting an “Anime-Like” Series

Scooby-Doo may have come out back in the 60s, but Mystery Inc. has gotten several revamps over the years including an adult animated comedy from Mindy Kaling called Velma. Despite the several variations, Scoob and Shaggy are now going to have one major revamp in that they’re going to be in an anime series—well, “anime-like” as they call it.

Here’s a look at Go-Go Mystery Machine:

The official description from WB Animation reads:

While visiting Japan on the ultimate foodie adventure, Shaggy and Scooby-Doo unwittingly unleash hundreds of mischievous mythical monsters that are now causing trouble all over the country. With the help of Scooby’s uncle, Daisuke-Doo, and magical friend Etsuko and gadget wiz Toshiro, Shaggy, and Scooby have new mysteries to solve and monsters to catch!

Franciso Paredes, who created the show, has worked on titles like Young Justice and the animated Baby Shark series.

This looks like another one of those WB animated properties being put through a Japanese filter. This year, we’re also expecting to see an anime-fied version of The Suicide Squad with the upcoming Suicide Squad ISEKAI.

Going back to Go-Go Mystery Machine, it does look like Shaggy and Scooby are going to be dealing with actual monsters this time, and they’re going to be very Japanese specifically. We don’t know what kind of humor to expect yet, but My Adventures with Superman does have a very anime look, despite being clearly written with a Western audience in mind.

Hopefully we’ll get a better idea when they drop the first teaser.

Go-Go Mystery Machine is expected to premiere sometime later this year.
