Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny may not have been the box office splash Disney was expecting, but what about bringing Dr. Jones into the world of gaming?
Bethesda Softworks is currently working on a game called Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and we just got our first gameplay reveal:
The official description for the game reads:
Uncover one of history’s greatest mysteries in Indiana Jones and the Great Circle™, a first-person, single-player adventure set between the events of Raiders of the Lost Ark™ and The Last Crusade™. The year is 1937, sinister forces are scouring the globe for the secret to an ancient power connected to the Great Circle, and only one person can stop them – Indiana Jones™.
You’ll become the legendary archaeologist in this cinematic action-adventure game from MachineGames, the award-winning studio behind the recent Wolfenstein series, and executive produced by Hall of Fame game designer Todd Howard.
Though Indiana Jones does keep the Harrison Ford face model, it’s been revealed that Bethesda actually got Troy Baker (BioShock Infinite, The Last of Us) to play Jones in the game. It’s not a spot-on impression, but I think Baker does a pretty good job.
Based on what we see in the trailer, we can probably expect all kinds of Indiana Jones shenanigans from trying to solve ancient puzzles to running around and punching nazis. What I am curious about is how the game is going to differentiate itself from the Uncharted series, given that those games are essentially just playable Indiana Jones adventures.
I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what Bethesda has in store.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is expected to launch sometime later this year.
