Friendship: Paul Rudd and Tim Robinson Star in A24’s Version of ‘I Love You, Man’

Paul Rudd had been a guy looking for a best friend in adulthood in I Love You, Man, but now it looks like he’s going to be the odd new friend for Tim Robinson in A24’s bizarre-looking Friendship movie.

Check this out:

This looks to be the debut movie for director Andrew DeYoung, but he’s managed to nab some directing credits for some great comedy series like PEN15, Our Flag Means Death, and Miracle Workers. Besides Rudd and Robinson, the movie also stars the likes of Kate Mara (Fant4stic), Jack Dylan Grazer (Shazam!), and Josh Segarra (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law).

With Robinson as the lead, it’s admittedly kind of confusing whether to see his character’s breakdowns as comedic or dramatic, but it’s probably all part of the show. After all, Friendship has been categorized as a comedy. As for Rudd, though he does generally play nice people, he does get the occasional manipulative weirdo that uses Rudd’s easy-going persona to catch audiences off guard. He’s pretty much a manipulative psycho in Apple TV+’s The Shrink Next Door.

Admittedly, Friendship does look a lot like I Love You, Man, but the story does seem a bit reversed with Robinson expecting to keep the friendship while Rudd’s circle is the one that brings him in and pushes him out. It’s not clear how this story is going to end, but knowing A24, this could be one bizarre trip.

Friendship is set to come out in theaters this May.
