It’s been more than a decade since the release of M. Night Shyamalan’s attempt at a live-action Last Airbender movie, and while a lot of people didn’t like that film, Netflix is now going to attempt another remake with their upcoming series.
Avatar: The Last Airbender is set to come out this February, and we have our first trailer featuring Team Avatar and key figures from the Fire Nation. Check this out:
Fans of the animated series will immediately recognize all the key figures in the series; as well as the side characters that have become fan-favorites of the Avatar fandom. Not only are we getting Aang, Katara, and Sokka, but we also have the Kiyoshi Warriors, Jet and his Freedom Fighters, June the bounty hunter, and King Bumi, the ruler of Omashu.
While we are expecting a compressed version of the first season of the animated Airbender, it does look like the show has managed to include a lot of the side stories and then some. We have the air temple that is full of the non-benders, the Blue Spirit arc, and Hei Bai and the Spirit World. And while it’s not in the original series, it does seem like we’re going to get a scene depicting the genocide of the airbenders and them fighting against the Fire Nation.
So far, fans have been positive about what they’ve been seeing; and personally, the bending looks a lot better than what we got in the Shyamalan film. Hopefully they don’t disappoint.
Avatar: The Last Airbender comes to Netflix on Feb. 22.
