It’s finally here. After months of teasing, we finally have our first trailer for Square Enix’s Avengers game, Marvel’s Avengers: A-Day. We have a look at a lot of the main cast of the game, plus some story reveals that showcase the dark nature of the story.
Check it out:
Here’s the official description:
Marvel’s Avengers begins at A-Day, where Captain America, Iron Man, the Hulk, Black Widow, and Thor are unveiling a hi-tech Avengers Headquarters in San Francisco — including the reveal of their own helicarrier powered by an experimental energy source. The celebration turns deadly when a catastrophic accident results in massive devastation. Blamed for the tragedy, the Avengers disband. Five years later, with all Super Heroes outlawed and the world in peril, the only hope is to reassemble Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
It kind of gets some story elements from the Civil War comic where there’s a large tragedy and the heroes are blamed for it. We don’t know how the Marvel story plans to move forward, but I’m already interested to see what’s in store for A-Day.
With Captain America dead, it looks like the main heroes we’ll get to control are Hulk, Iron Man, Thor, and Black Widow. It’s kind of a bummer that Hawkeye isn’t a part of this, but I guess we could always wait for a sequel—if this game performs that is.
Though most reactions have been positive, there are some who think that the characters look a bit wonky. I’m not completely sold either, but I guess we should just wait for some more reveals and traiers as the year trudges along.
Marvel’s Avengers: A-Day is set to come out May 15, 2020.
