The decade had started out with Paramount’s successful Sonic the Hedgehog movies, and four years later, fans are ready for a third romp with one of Sega’s most iconic mascots.
As teased in the last film, Shadow the Hedgehog is finally coming to the big screen, and the first trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has him clashing with Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles. Check this out:
The Sonic movies have never really been much when it comes to plot, but it does look like Sonic is going to be clashing with Shadow, who seems to have all of Sonic’s powers and then some.
With Shadow being able to match everyone in Team Sonic, it looks like Sonic will have to team-up with the main adversary for the past two films—Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey). With Robotnik slowly looking like his video game counterpart over the past two films, this third movie will finally give him that gigantic belly. What’s more, the film will also introduce Robotnik’s dad—who also looks like he’s played by Jim Carrey.
Like I said, the Sonic movies were never really much when it came to plot, but they’re still great films for the audience that really matters—the kids. We don’t know how many more of these films Paramount plans to make, but with so many Sonic characters that have yet to be revealed—plus possible crossovers with other video game characters—we could be looking at an the next Alvin and the Chipmunks franchise for the 2020s.
Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is set to release in theatres on Dec. 20.
