Showtime’s Dexter ran from 2006 to 2013, and though a lot of people like to complain about how the series ended badly, Showtime has decided to go backwards and just tell a story about Dexter’s beginning.
Check out the trailer for Dexter: Original Sin:
Set in 1991 Miami, Dexter: Original Sin follows Dexter (Patrick Gibson) as he transitions from student to avenging serial killer. When his bloodthirsty urges can’t be ignored any longer, Dexter must learn to channel his inner darkness. With the guidance of his father, Harry (Golden Globe® winner Christian Slater), he adopts a Code designed to help him find and kill people who deserve to be eliminated from society without getting on law enforcement’s radar. This is a particular challenge for young Dexter as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department.
The series has been able to gather a star-studded cast which includes the likes of Patrick Dempsey and Sarah Michelle Geller. What’s interesting is they’ve also attached the original Dexter Michael C. Hall as the narrator for the show (dubbed ‘Dexter’s Inner Voice’)
Like I said, a lot of people weren’t too pleased with how the original show ended. There was a revival back in 2021 called Dexter: New Blood, and though it was considered to be the series back in original form, the ending was considered a big fumble as well.
With fans knowing where Dexter is headed in the future, it’s going to be interesting to put together the dots as he becomes one of TV’s most beloved sociopath serial killers.
Watch out for Dexter: Original Sin when it premieres on Paramount+ on Dec. 13.
