This month may see the premiere of the second season of Rings of Power on Amazon, but the LOTR franchise also has some big theatrical plans this holiday season.
The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim is set to release in theatres this December, and we have our first trailer. Check this out:
“Set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original trilogy of films, “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” tells the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan. A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg— a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm’s Deep.”
The film is directed by Kenji Kamiyama who had also worked on properties like Akira, Eden of East, and Ghost in the Shell. Original LOTR trilogy director Peter Jackson is also attached as a producer.
When it comes to the main cast, the movie has actually managed to nab Succession’s Brian Cox as the king of Rohan Helm Hammerhand. Gaia Wise also plays the part of Hera, Helm’s daughter. Luke Pasqualino also plays the part of Wulf.
The movie will also be bringing back Miranda Otto to reprise the role of Eowyn from the original trilogy. Eowyn will be serving as the narrator of the film; which is fitting since, in the lore, the history of Rohan is never written down, but it’s passed along via songs and stories.
