Zack Snyder may never work on a Star Wars project based on how strict Lucasfilm is with the IP, but Netflix has allowed him to build his own franchise with the upcoming Rebel Moon. The movie has apparently been split into two parts, and we have the first teaser for Part 1, A Child of Fire which is set to come out this December.
Watch this:
Here’s the official description:
When a peaceful colony on the edge of a galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of a tyrannical ruling force, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival.
Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Mother World, Kora assembles a small band of warriors — outsiders, insurgents, peasants and orphans of war from different worlds who share a common need for redemption and revenge.
As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a battle over the fate of a galaxy is waged, and in the process, a new army of heroes is formed.
Though the teaser doesn’t have any of the humor that we can expect from a Star Wars property, it does have all seriousness of Denis Villeneuve’s Dune movies; and since this is Zack Snyder we’re talking about, we can expect a lot of striking visuals and slow-motion.
I’m just hoping that Snyder has found a solid narrative flow for this story, because he does have a tendency to take his time with things. Though I do love Man of Steel and the rest of his DC entries, they could do with some script touch ups to make things snappier and compact.
Rebel Moon Part 1: A Child of Fire is set to come to Netflix on Dec. 20. Part 2: The Scargiver is set to release on April 19, 2024.
