After Cowboy Bebop and Death Note, Netflix is now looking to adapt one of the most popular manga/anime of all time with the live-action One Piece which is set to premiere later this year. Thanks to TUDUM 2023, we now have our first teaser trailer showcasing Luffy, Zoro, and the rest of the Straw Hat crew.

The logline reads: Here’s a first look at the live action adaptation of the most popular manga in history, written by Eiichiro Oda.
Though fans know that Luffy’s crew eventually grows in number, it looks like the first season of the series is going to feature the first four members of the crew which are Zoro, Nami, Usopp, and Sanji. It will probably be a while before we get characters like Chopper, Brook, Robin, or Franky.
Probably one of the biggest concerns with the fans is the special effects, and if you watch One Piece, you’ll know that Luffy’s powers will be requiring a lot of CG heavy lifting. So far the teaser has only shown us one of Luffy’s signature moves, but if Netflix really wants to pull this off, they’ll have to dish out the money to let Luffy go all out with his elastic powers—not to mention the rest of his crew all have their own special abilities as well.
With a release date set for August, hopefully we get a new teaser with more finished VFX by July.
One Piece premieres on Netflix on Aug. 31.
