Damon Lindelof is currently working on a Watchmen series for HBO, and though we don’t know much about the show officially, we’ve finally been given our first image from the set.
Check it out:
We don’t know who this cop with a yellow bandana is, but I have a feeling that it’s harkening back to the iconic yellow smiley of the Comedian. I wouldn’t be surprised if the mask didn’ get a drop of blood on it one way or another.
With half of the face covered as well, you might even say that it’s an homage to the ‘faceless’ Rorschach. Then again, it’s only my guess, but hopefully it will all make sense once we get our first trailer.
A lot of people were initially skeptical of this Watchmen show, seeing that Zack Snyder basically adapted it into live-action the best he could with the 2009 movie. Tensions seemed to ease, though, when more clues seem to point out that this will be a continuation of the Alan Moore comic—an exploration of the world after Adrian Veidt’s genocide. It wasn’t a remake; it was a sequel.
Instead of a bunch of dysfunctional heroes, it’s said that the show will focus on a group of policemen, who are essentially the traditional watchmen of our time. Just like the comic, I bet we’re going to be in for a ride filled with grit, dark humor, and moral ambiguity.
I can’t wait for this to air.
Catch Watchmen on HBO sometime in 2019.
