Jason Reitman is set to redirect the Ghostbusters franchise back to the original continuity, and production has started for Ghostbusters 2020. Just in, Reitman has shared this image of the main cast of the film including Carrie Coon, McKenna Grace, and Finn Wolfhard.

Coon is said to be playing the mother of both Wolfhard and Grace’s characters, and based on their appearance, I have a feeling that they’re the grandchildren of original Ghostbuster Egon Spengler—you can’t go wrong with that curly hair and glasses.
Harold Ramis, who played Spengler, had passed away back in 2014, so I think it would make sense that the movie would focus on the Spenglers since Ramis can’t make an appearance. Other Ghostbusters Dan Akyroyd, Bill Murray, and Ernie Hudson could very well make a return. Personally, I’m also hoping for an appearance from the side characters played by Rick Moranis, Annie Potts, and Sigourney Weaver.
Going back to the photo though, if you’re wondering who the man in the far left is, that’s original Ghostbusters director Ivan Reitman, who is also the father of the current director. He’s attached as producer of this movie as well, so hopefully we can get a more consistent tone when it comes to this sequel/reboot. As long as it doesn’t end up like Ghostbusters 2016, I think we’re good.
Of course, fans can trust director Jason Reitman – after all, he is the son of the original Ghostbusters director, Ivan. Let’s wait and see what happens.
Ghostbusters 2020 is set to come out July 10, 2020.
