WATCH: First Clip of Uzumaki Anime Brings Junji Ito’s Horror to Life

The anime adaptation for Junji Ito’s Uzumaki may not have been able to make its original 2020 release date, but it looks like the series has been worth the wait, and the anime is set to come out this week.

Just to give fans a taste of what kind of horror the series is going to be giving, a new clip from the show has been dropped, and it certainly has a very unique horror atmosphere going on. Check this out:

It doesn’t really go all out with the horror that the series has been known for, but just the creepy build-up to the reveal of the girl with the spiral on her forehead is going to leave viewers uneasy.

It was said that the series was originally going to be the original manga panels that have been slightly animated, but it was then delayed to give the studio a chance to “replicate the quality of the intricate designs and detailed line work.” By the looks of the clip, some parts do seem to be animated panels from the manga, but there are definitely some animations that look like completely original work.

With Netflix stumbling on their Junji Ito adaptation with Tales of the Macabre, a lot of eyes are on Uzumaki to deliver an adaptation that everyone wants to see. After all, Uzumaki is considered to be Ito’s opus, complete with his signature gore and horror storylines; not to mention the attractive retro anime girls.

If you haven’t checked out Uzumaki the manga yet, maybe this series could very well get you interested in trying out the original source material.

Watch out for Uzumaki when it premieres on Adult Swim and Max on Sept. 28.
