Fire & Blood: Game of Thrones Spinoff Focused on House Targaryen in the Works

Just because Game of Thrones is ended, doesn’t mean that HBO is done with Westeros. We know that a prequel series is incoming for the show, but a second spinoff is said to be in the works. What’s more, it’s focused on House Targaryen and it has Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin directly involved.

According to Deadline, Martin and Ryan Condal (Colony) are working on a prequel set 300 years before the War of the Five Kings, and it will focus on the beginnings of House Targaryen. HBO has declined to comment on the show, but it’s said that the series will be based on Martin’s Fire & Blood book.

This is actually just one of many other prequels in development. Martin had teased in his blog back in May:

“We have had five different Game of Thrones successor shows in development at HBO, and three of them are still moving forward nicely…”

Two other shows remain in the script stage, but are edging closer… What are they about? I cannot say. But maybe some of you should pick up a copy of Fire & Blood and come up with your own theories.”

While I can understand a full prequel based on Westeros before the wall and a show about the rise of the Targaryens, I can’t imagine what else they can based a spinoff on. Since we basically know where everything ends, I guess I would love to see a sequel series showing us what happens to Westeros after Bran’s rule. Maybe in a way, it can redeem the last season. If anything, I’ll be happy with a  TV movie and not a full on new series.

No release date has been set for these Game of Thrones spinoffs, but hopefully we get something as soon as 2021.
