There may be a Harry Potter reboot in the works now, but for a while J.K. Rowling and WB were trying to expand the Wizarding World with the Fantastic Beasts franchise starring Eddie Redmayne.
Admittedly, the films just kept getting worse with each entry, and the last film to come out was The Secrets of Dumbledore back in 2022. Though that film teased an eventual clash with Grindelwald and Dumbledore, it looks like that won’t be happening anymore—at least we know Newt won’t be around to witness it.
In a recent interview with ComicBook to promote his new series Day of the Jackal, Redmayne confirmed, “I think they probably have [seen the last of Newt]… That was a very frank answer, but yeah. And that’s as far as I know. I mean, you’d have to speak to the people at Warner Bros. and J.K Rowling, but as far as I know, that’s it. I think he may come back in a glimpse in the Universal world in Florida that they’re opening up, in which you may catch a glimpse of what he was up to in Paris.”
For now, it looks like the main focus of the Wizarding World franchise is launching the Potter reboot series; but even now a lot of fans are being very skeptical about the remake. After all, so much of the Potter media like the theme parks and the games have all been based heavily on what’s been seen in the films. What would be the point of making a new adaptation?
Personally, I loved the initial direction they went with Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them, but it seemed like Rowling got lost in the legacy of the characters and wanted to hype up the clash between Dumbledore and Grindelwald so much that Newt ended up becoming a side character in the franchise that he launched.
We don’t know what’s in store for the Wizarding World in the next few years, but I honestly hope whoever gets cast as the new lead wouldn’t be relentlessly bashed online by some angry Potter fans.
The Potter reboot is expected to hit Max sometime in 2026 or 2027.
