The Exorcist horror franchise is coming back to the big screen this year with the sequel Believer, and a lot of fans are wondering just how thing have changed since the original film from 1973. A new trailer has just dropped for the movie, and thanks to Fandango, we also have a breakdown of the preview with director David Gordon Green.
First off, here’s the trailer:
And here’s the breakdown with Green:
Admittedly, the demon possession genre has changed quite a lot ever since the first movie, but you can see that Believer definitely takes a lot of hints from the original, from the use of music to the flashing images of demons in black and white.
I just think it’s kind of funny that the film is kind of pulling off an Alien where the sequel just has more than one person possessed. I have no doubt the movie is going to end up banned in some conservative Christian places.
Here’s the official description:
Since the death of his pregnant wife in a Haitian earthquake 12 years ago, Victor Fielding (Tony winner and Oscar® nominee Leslie Odom, Jr.; One Night in Miami, Hamilton) has raised their daughter, Angela (Lidya Jewett, Good Girls) on his own.
But when Angela and her friend Katherine (newcomer Olivia Marcum), disappear in the woods, only to return three days later with no memory of what happened to them, it unleashes a chain of events that will force Victor to confront the nadir of evil and, in his terror and desperation, seek out the only person alive who has witnessed anything like it before: Chris MacNeil (Ellen Burstyn).
Watch out for The Exorcist: Believer when it comes to cinemas on Oct. 6.
