Despite being the head of Marvel Studios, it’s been said that Kevin Feige collaborating with Lucasfilm for a Star Wars project, and news has it that he’s already found someone to direct.
One Take News reports that Eternals director Chloe Zhao has been asked to helm Feige’s Star Wars movie, with some sources saying that the deal has already been done. We have no official confirmation from either Zhao or Feige, but it’s definitely interesting news.
With Eternals being branded as Marvel’s first major tumble in its 13-year-run, you would think that Disney would ease up on asking Zhao to work on their other big franchise. Then again, Zhao has proven herself to be a solid director, and if Feige wants to bring her into Star Wars, he has every right to.
After news has come out that Patty Jenkins’ Star Wars movie has been delayed, a lot of fans are wondering what’s going to be the film that brings Star Wars back to theaters. While shows like The Mandalorian are successful, I (personally) don’t think the show manages to reach the real spectacle we can expect from a Star Wars film—much like the smaller MCU series like The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and WandaVision.
With Feige’s film run starting to feel formulaic with the MCU, I would love for him to try something different when it comes to Star Wars, and maybe Zhao is just the director to bring that new tone.
A Zhao-directed Star Wars hasn’t been officially announced, but in the meantime, you can check out Eternals now in theaters.
