Actress Emma Stone has kind of slowed down with her projects recently, and Disney’s Cruella being her last big film. Now she’s reuniting with The Favourite director Yorgos Lanthimos for another arthouse movie called Poor Things.
Check out the trippy trailer:
The official synopsis reads:
From filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos and producer Emma Stone comes the incredible tale and fantastical evolution of Bella Baxter (Stone), a young woman brought back to life by the brilliant and unorthodox scientist Dr. Godwin Baxter (Willem Dafoe). Under Baxter’s protection, Bella is eager to learn. Hungry for the worldliness she is lacking, Bella runs off with Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo), a slick and debauched lawyer, on a whirlwind adventure across the continents. Free from the prejudices of her times, Bella grows steadfast in her purpose to stand for equality and liberation.
Besides The Favourite, Lanthimos is also the same filmmaker behind The Killing of a Sacred Deer and The Lobster, which are all very arthouse movies; even The Favourite wasn’t as much of a crowd-pleaser. With Poor Things, we should expect the same kind of storytelling that Lanthimos is known for, but maybe this time we could expect a lot more trippy visuals; because based on what we see from the trailer alone, the film looks like it’s attempting to invoke a painting come to life.
Hopefully we get a full trailer in the next few months building up to release.
Watch out for Poor Things when it comes to cinemas on Sept. 8.
