Elemental Gets Disney+ Release Date

Elemental Gets Disney+ Release Date

Elemental may not have made a splash at the box office in its opening weekend, but good word-of-mouth has resulted in the film being one of the most successful animated movies of the year. Now Disney is ready for its streaming release, and we got the official announcement.

Watch out for Ember and Wade’s romance when Elemental comes to Disney+ on September 13. Here’s the announcement video:

Though Pixar has had a bit of trouble with recent releases like Lightyear, Elemental manages to shine with its original world of elemental beings. What’s also great about the film is that it’s a straight-up romance movie—not the usual premise when you’re talking about a Pixar family film.

What’s also surprising is how the movie managed to be an interesting take on the immigrant experience. If Toy Story is a take on parenthood and Turning Red is about puberty, then Elemental is all about the lives of people who’ve had to grow up and carve lives where they weren’t exactly welcome.

Disney and Pixar’s “Elemental,” an all-new, original feature film set in Element City, is where fire-, water-, land- and air-residents live together. The story introduces Ember, a tough, quick-witted and fiery young woman, whose friendship with a fun, sappy, go-with-the-flow guy named Wade challenges her beliefs about the world they live in. Directed by Peter Sohn, produced by Denise Ream, and featuring the voices of Leah Lewis and Mamoudou Athie as Ember and Wade.

Watch out for Elemental when it comes to Disney+ on Sept. 13.
