EA gets flak for a lot of things, but probably one of the most common complaints about the company is their misuse of the Star Wars license. Despite the massive franchise potential of Star Wars, EA has only managed to release a handful of titles in the past few years. What’s great is, it looks like the company wants to change that direction moving forward.
During a ‘fireside chat’ with EA execs (via GameSpot), EA CEO Andrew Wilson expressed his desire to ‘double down’ on Star Wars games. He said:
“Up is my hope–up and to the right… We have a tremendous relationship with Disney. We have a tremendous relationship with Lucas. We have a longstanding relationship with them going all the way back to Star Wars The Old Republic that we launched in 2011.”
When it comes to EA, the only title they’ve really launched successfully was Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. While a lot of people have since warmed up to Star Wars Battlefront II, fans can still remember the disaster that was launch, being marked as one of the worst video game launches in history.
If anything, we should look forward to the future. We have the upcoming sequel to Jedi: Fallen Order as well as a new starship game from EA Motive called Star Wars: Squadrons. They’re even re-launched Star Wars Episode I: Racer for modern consoles; it’s not a remaster, but I’m hoping it’s a step in that direction.
We don’t know what else is down the Star Wars game timeline, but Squadrons is set to come out this October for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
