DreamWorks Drops New Trailer for The Wild Robot

It may be a while before we get a look at the next Shrek movie, but DreamWorks is going to be delivering an original new film with The Wild Robot later this year.

The movie features the voices of Lupita Nyong’o (Black Panther), Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian), and Catherine O’Hara (Schitt’s Creek), and we have a new trailer here giving us what looks to be the spiritual sequel to The Iron Giant. Check this out:

The epic adventure follows the journey of a robot—ROZZUM unit 7134, “Roz” for short — that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings, gradually building relationships with the animals on the island and becoming the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling.

The movie is actually based on the book of the same name from author Peter Brown, which also got the title of the New York Times Bestseller when it released back in the mid-2010s. There are actually two books in the series, The Wild Robot and The Wild Robot Escapes.

Seeing that the How to Train Your Dragon movie took some liberties with the source material, it’s possible that The Wild Robot could also do the same when it comes to the movie. With DreamWorks trying its best to keep-up with the success of Disney and Illumination, I have hopes that The Wild Robot can deliver a great kid-friendly adventure film with a lot of heart.

Catch The Wild Robot when it comes to cinemas on Sept. 27.
