Disney Responds to Billionaire Investor Who Wants 2 Board Seats

It’s no mystery that the Disney company has been in kind of a slump recently, and add to that their online presence is frequently being trolled by thousands of ‘anti-woke’ sentiment. With Bob Iger having to take over for his supposed successor Bob Chapek, billionair investor Nelson Peltz had made public what he thought was wrong with the media giant.

Talking to Financial Times, Peltz, who has allegedly been trying to get two board seats at Disney, explained how he thinks the company has stumbled when it comes to their huge IP. When it came to the topic of Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige, Peltz said,  that he ‘questioned his record’. When it came to the “woke” accusations at Marvel property, Peltz said:

“I wasn’t that crazy about it… Why do I have to have a Marvel that’s all women? Not that I have anything against women, but why do I have to do that? Why can’t I have Marvels that are both? Why do I need an all-Black cast?”

Already, everyone online had colorful things to say about Peltz and his comments, but Disney has decided to release a statement explaining that Peltz’s comments to FT were exactly why they didn’t want to give him a seat on the board. On regards to Peltz, Disney says that he “brings no media experience and has presented no strategic ideas for Disney,” and that he would just further muddle the creative process and the progress Disney has made with their current direction.

Admittedly, the image of these big CEOs taking over big media companies has not been the best of late—just look at David Zaslav and how much bad blood he’s managed to cultivate with creatives and their audiences with what he’s done to WB Discovery.

Of course, depending on who’s running things, Disney could change their tone with Peltz in the future, but for now, fans are happy to see the company condemn someone who is open about being against the progressive route the company is trying to pave.
