Very few properties manage to become instant classics, but Disney Pixar’s Coco from 2017 was a favourite. It’s been almost a decade since the movie released, but Pixar has revealed they’re ready to take another stab at the Land of the Dead.

Admittedly, a lot of fans were perplexed that a sequel would just be titled Coco 2. After all, the Coco in the title was supposed to be Miguel’s grandmother who dies at the end of the movie. She’s not even that much of a character, and more of a emotional mcguffin for Miguel and Hector.
If the movie is going to be titled Coco 2, does it mean that Miguel gets a new family member down the line that is also named Coco? Instead of the death, is the sequel going to explore the concept of Life? I doubt they’re going to try and resurrect Coco.
I wouldn’t be surprised if this was a sequel following the story of a young Coco who is trying to connect to her lost father, but Coco 2 does sound like a title that would bring the story forward rather than just look back.
Hopefully Pixar reveals more down the line. They must be pretty confident with what they have to touch a movie that’s pretty solid on its own.
So far no official release date has been announced for Coco 2, but Pixar is now gearing up for their next movie Elio which comes to cinemas on June 20.
