With Spider-Man: Far from Home saying that Peter Parker is “the next Iron Man”, a lot of fans were wondering about the other guy with an Iron Man suit, War Machine. With Rhodey seemingly swept under the rug, news has it that he’s actually getting his own miniseries from Disney+.
According to MediaByte, a source has said that a War Machine series is currently in early development. We don’t have any details about when the Disney+ series will take place, but everyone is expecting Don Cheadle to make a return as Col. James Rhodes.
For now, War Machine joins a list of MCU miniseries that includes WandaVision, Loki, and Falcon and The Winter Soldier. We don’t know which one Disney+ is planning to pump out first, but hopefully we get an announcement during the Marvel panel this coming weekend.
With Far from Home having such a huge emphasis on the death of Iron Man, it’s kind of curious that War Machine didn’t make a cameo. I guess when it comes down to it, Rhodey may have a suit, but he doesn’t really have the brains that could match Tony’s—and that’s what sets Peter apart. I guess it’s also kind of difficult since he works for the military, and Tony Stark didn’t answer to anyone.
Hopefully this War Machine series pans out. It was said that there were plans for a solo film that were eventually scrapped. I wonder how much of it they could salvage for this upcoming series.
The Marvel Studios panel at SDCC 2019 takes place at Hall H on July 20.
