Detective Pikachu Writers Working on a Star Wars Project?

The Star Wars machine may not be working as fast as the Marvel one right now, but they still manage to find some grade-A talent to collaborate with.

In a new report from Deadline, it’s been revealed that Detective Pikachu writers Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit are currently developing unannounced projects with both Lucasfilm and Walt Disney Pictures.

This comes off the premiere of their series Koala Man on Hulu which focuses on an Australian superhero fighting crime in the suburbs. EVP of 20th Television Animation Marci Proietto and President of ABC Signature Jonnie Davis had this to say about the duo:

“Dan and Benji are wildly talented writers with a truly unique sensibility and a hilarious voice.  We have been obsessed with their work for years and are very excited to continue our relationship in animation with them, and are thrilled to expand their development into live-action within our studio.”

No details have been released about their upcoming Lucasfilm or Disney projects, but The Direct has pointed out that Hernandez himself has revealed that he’s a huge Star Wars fan. Even Samit himself has participated in a Star Wars marathon (as per his social media).

With the release of Andor, it now feels like Star Wars is large enough to try and branch out with different kinds of properties. My guess is that Samit and Hernandez could be working on a comedy Star Wars series for Lucasilm, but until we get more news, speculation is just the best we can do.

The Lucasfilm or Disney series from Hernandez and Samit have not been officially announced. In the meantime, catch Koala Man now streaming on Hulu.
