Disney has just undergone their annual meeting among the shareholders, and with it comes footage for the highly anticipated Star Wars Episode IX. We’re not expecting to get the reel until Celebration in April, but we do have some descriptions of what was shown thanks to Twitter user Scott Ladewig.
Ladewig reveals that the clips shown at the meeting were a mix of both BTS shots as well as actual clips from the movie. He goes on to describe:
We saw a blockade runner in an abandoned looking hangar. An explosion knocking Stormtroopers in a starship hangar bay. Kylo Ren in a white room looking at the Vader helmet. Rey, Finn, Poe in Falcon cockpit.
Ladewig also posted:
Lando briefly. Rey with Chewie’s [bowcaster]. Finn in some abandoned looking ship interior.
We don’t know the full story for Episode IX yet, but the description of multiple ‘abandoned’ things in the Disney footage makes me think we’re going to be revisiting some familiar locations (like Yavin IV). After the Resistance was nearly wiped out in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, I would imagine that Leia and the others would scramble to gather whatever they could find that’s useful—from old ships to Rebel headquarters.
Personally, I’m just hoping that J.J. Abrams does something new with the finale of the sequel trilogy. I know that some people want nostalgic moments and callbacks, but I think Rian Johnson’s approach of subverting expectations is what will really stand the test of time.
Catch Star Wars Episode IX in theaters Dec. 20.
