Johnny Depp Possible Future with Pirates of the Caribbean

Johnny Depp Possible Future with Pirates of the Caribbean

Johnny Depp may be the face of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but it seems like he’s lost enthusiasm for the Jack Sparrow role since On Stranger Tides. Disney is still looking to bring the pirate franchise back to its former glory, but it seems that Depp’s role may be in flux.

In a recent report from Variety, it’s said that producer Jerry Bruckheimer is actually producing two Pirates of the Caribbean scripts—and one of them could bring Depp back; depending on how he mends things with Disney.

It’s said that the studio currently isn’t talking with Depp for a future return, but he has been slowly making a comeback ever since Disney dropped him when the whole case with Amber Heard blew up a few years ago.

As someone who actually liked the first three films, it’s easy to see that Depp has kind of lost the fire of the Jack Sparrow character. If anything, it also has to do with the movies pivoting to making him the lead.

Originally, the franchise leads were supposed to be Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann; and Jack was more of a morally ambiguous anti-hero (like Han Solo in Star Wars). After the story of Will and Elizabeth ended though, Jack was put front-and-center, and he’s never been as interesting since.

Personally, I’m okay if Jack shows up, but after Depp’s recent reprises of the character, I don’t think he’s found anything more interesting to do with him. I do love the idea of someone taking on Jack’s original role of a kooky pirate. You think Margot Robbie is still attached to one of those scripts?

No release date has been set for the next Pirates of the Caribbean movie.
