Xolo Maridueña may be this generation’s Karate Kid thanks to Cobra Kai, but he’s now set to make the jump to superhero movies with the upcoming Blue Beetle. The film is set to release next month, and with The Flash ending its theatrical run, we have a final trailer for the movie.
Check this out:
Here’s the official description for the film:
Recent college grad Jaime Reyes returns home full of aspirations for his future, only to find that home is not quite as he left it. As he searches to find his purpose in the world, fate intervenes when Jaime unexpectedly finds himself in possession of an ancient relic of alien biotechnology: the Scarab. When the Scarab suddenly chooses Jaime to be its symbiotic host, he is bestowed with an incredible suit of armor capable of extraordinary and unpredictable powers, forever changing his destiny as he becomes the Super Hero BLUE BEETLE.
Originally, the film was supposed to release on HBO Max alongside projects like Batgirl, but somehow they upgraded the film to actually have a theatrical run.
We don’t know what’s so special about Blue Beetle that they decided to release it in cinemas, but you can clearly see his potential as a popular superhero, being a sort of cross between Iron Man (the advanced suit and technology) and Green Lantern (the ability to construct anything Jaime can imagine).
It’s still unclear how the DCEU will be moving forward with James Gunn and Peter Safran at the helm, but some think that Blue Beetle will be the first main entry in the new timeline. Hopefully things get clarified soon.
Blue Beetle comes to cinemas on Aug. 18.
