Director Osgood Perkins has managed to wow audiences with his deeply unsettling movie Longlegs, but he’s ready for another ride with upcoming movie The Monkey. The movie is set to hit theatres in February, and we have a new teaser with some trippy visuals and a very creepy toy monkey. Check this out:
Here’s the synopsis:
When twin brothers Bill and Hal find their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths start. The siblings decide to throw the toy away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years.
The movie is actually based on a short story from Stephen King (IT, Carrie), and it’s also being produced by James Wan (Saw). The movie also stars Theo James (The Gentlemen), Elijah Wood (Over the Garden Wall), and Tatiana Maslany (She-Hulk: Attorney at Law).
Though the original story from King is pretty short, it’s very likely that it will be expanded for the movie. I don’t want to spoil exactly what the monkey does (because it’s already in the synopsis of the book), but it does feel like this could be Perkins’ take on the ‘coincidental murder’ genre that was popularized by The Omen and completely owned by the Final Destination movies.
I’ll admit, Longlegs wasn’t exactly the best horror story to ever come out, but the film was such an absolute vibe that it will leave audiences unsettled long after the credits start rolling.
Watch out for The Monkey when it comes to cinemas on Feb. 21, 2025.
