Though Hawkeye won’t ever get his own solo movie like Black Widow, he has been given his own series with Disney+. We know that the series will deal with Clint Barton passing he mantle to his protégé Kate Bishop, but there’s word going around that reveals why Clint is so keen on finding a successor.
According to Murphy’s Multiverse, a casting call has gone out for a ‘middle-aged Chinese audiologist’ and it’s possible that this could be for the Hawkeye series. Though Clint’s only disability in the films is that he’s a normal human, the comics have actually had the character be deaf, and he wears special hearing aids to function properly. This was actually adopted by the Avengers game with their version of Hawkeye being deaf as well.
While this is just speculation for now, it could be the perfect exit point for Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye in the MCU. Since he can still basically function as an Avenger, it would make sense for him to find someone to replace him after some accident renders him deaf. It’s a better exit than death (or old age), if you ask me.
In the meantime, Marvel hasn’t been giving us any official updates on Hawkeye. Hailee Steinfeld was said to have been cast as Kate Bishop, but besides that, we don’t know any more. Hopefully before the year ends, the series can start production, but seeing as everyone is still being careful with COVID-19, I think a 2021 start is also possible.
No specific release date has been set for Hawkeye, but WandaVision comes out on Disney+ on Jan. 15, 2021.
