A lot of fans were excited for The Witcher IV announcement when it was revealed in this year’s Game Awards, and though a lot of fans were expecting Geralt to be the lead again, it was Ciri who was revealed to be the Witcher in the game.
Despite the continuation of the series, it looks like CD Projekt Red has decided to recast the voice actress for Geralt’s successor. As confirmed by The Gamer, Ciri’s voice in the trailer is provided by one Ciara Berkley. The CDPR representative said:
“Ciara Berkeley was cast as Ciri for The Witcher IV Cinematic Reveal Trailer. Ciara is a talented actress who impressed us with her enthusiasm and vocal acting skills, and in this trailer we believe she truly brought Ciri to life in a way that is both faithful to the character and exciting for fans of the series.”
The original voice actress for the part was Jo Wyatt, but there was no explanation on why she wasn’t coming back for the sequel. While some may think the quote could just mean that Berkley is just providing the voice for the cinematic, it has been confirmed that she’s indeed taking over the role for the actual game.
For now, The Witcher IV is said to be in full production, and we should expect it to be a while before the game actually launches. Though The Witcher was what put CDPR on the map, the fiasco of Cyberpunk has led to the studio putting most of their focus on salvaging their rep for several years after a poor launch.
Fingers crossed that The Witcher IV will manage to please fans of Wild Hunt as well as bring in some new fans. It is considered the start of a new trilogy after all.
No release date has been set for The Witcher IV, but we should expect the game to launch for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5 sometime in the next two years.
