Child Star Jennette McCurdy Reads Her Mom’s Horrible Email

Jennette McCurdy may have stayed out of the spotlight ever since her Nickelodeon days, but she has been making headlines with her memoir I’m Glad My Mom Died which details her dysfunctional relationship with her mother.

The book had launched last month, and now McCurdy has been making more reveals about her child-star career. Most recently, there’s a clip of her going around during an appearance on Red Table Talk where she’s reading a horrible tweet from her mother:

McCurdy reads:

“I am so disappointed in you… You used to be my perfect little angel, but now you are nothing more than a little … slut, a floozy, all used up… you look pudgier too. It’s clear you’re eating your guilt,” the message said, according to McCurdy. “I told your brothers about you, and they all said they disown you just like I do. We want nothing to do with you. Love, Mom — or should I say Deb, since I am no longer your mother?”

It’s not the full transcript, but what matters is that McCurdy had a shockingly mean mother, and at the end of it all, she had the gall to ask McCurdy to send her some money for a new refrigerator.

Though a lot of people had been disappointed that McCurdy didn’t come back for the iCarly revival, the context of her book and her experience of abuse during her child actor days completely justifies her reluctance to come back.

Who knows, maybe there could be some return down the line, but in the meantime, the focus is on McCurdy trying to get past her trauma.

I’m Glad My Mom Died is now available at stores.
