Despite Square Enix trying to build hype around the game, we know very little about Crystal Dynamics’ Avengers: A-Day. What’s great is, they’ve just made a huge reveal today, and it turns out, the main villain is classic baddie MODOK.
Here’s the teaser:
While we only get to see littler of her in past promos, it looks like Ms. Marvel Kamala Khan will be the main protagonist of the game, being the ‘newbie’ who just receives her powers and brings the Avengers back together. While some fans could complain about Kamala being the lead, I think it’s a great idea to have her introduce us to this iteration of the Avengers, seeing as it’s completely different from the MCU.
Going back to the main villain though, I think MODOK is going to gradually change as the game goes along, with us having a look at him with just a larger brain. By the end, I expect him to be the comic-accurate depiction of the character—a giant floating head with a menacing scowl and ridiculously small arms.
Besides the story trailer, Crystal Dynamics has also dropped more videos covering gameplay. We get one that gives us a good look at Thor, as well as a look at how the game works if you’re playing co-op mode.
I have to say, the game looks pretty impressive, but I’m still on the fence about how excited I am for the game. It certainly is a bummer that it won’t be connected to the main MCU, but at the same time, there’s a lot of opportunity to impress fans with a whole new take on Earth’s Mightiest Heroes.
Avengers: A-Day is set to come out on Sept. 4.
