Though Pixar may be focused on the release of Toy Story 4 next month, they dropped the trailer for their next movie, Onward. The film is directed by Monsters University’s Dan Scanlon, and stars Marvel actors Tom Holland and Chris Pratt.
Check it out:
Set in a suburban fantasy world, Disney and Pixar’s “Onward” introduces two teenage elf brothers who embark on an extraordinary quest to discover if there is still a little magic left out there.
If you’ve watched Netflix’s Bright, I’m sure you can spot some similarities in the setting —specifically fantasy characters living in the modern world. I guess the one big difference is that humans exist in the world of Bright; here, it seems that only magical creatures live in this world.
Of course, there’s also the fact that Bright is a more mature movie while things seem to be kept PG for Onward. You have to hand it to Scanlon; he was able to make a clean college movie with Monsters University.
The movie was announced way back in December, and Chris Pratt himself admitted to crying during the pitch meeting for the film. Disney Pixar already has a trademark for kids films with tear-jerking scenes, so I shouldn’t expect Onward to be any different.
