Watch: Breakdown of a Chaotic Scene from SNL Biopic ‘Saturday Night’

Satuday Night Live is about to hit its 50th Anniversary this October, and Sony is going to be commemorating the event with a biopic about the first ever episode produced for SNL called Saturday Night.

The film is set to come out in a few weeks, but thanks to The New York Times, we have an interesting scene breakdown from director Jason Reitman for what is said to be one of the earlier scenes from the film. Check this out:

Though the SNL scene looks like absolute chaos, the movie needed to be extra organized when it came to putting people in front of the screen at the right time. Even Reitman himself shared, “We had to choreograph this movie like a dance film… I’d have a giant whiteboard like a football coach. And I would have to write plays for all the extras and background actors and crew, just so everyone would know where to be.”

The movie even went as far as to have everyone train how to use all of the equipment their character would be using so that they would always look authentic in front of the camera. Everyone was also said to have been mic’d up so they could catch every bit of improvised dialogue that they could.

I’ll admit, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Ghostbusters Afterlife and Frozen Empire, but it’s great to see Reitman going back to his more dramatic roots. Plus it’s going to be interesting to see this experimental biopic which would only be focusing on the first 90 minutes it took right before the cameras started rolling on what would be a historic television show.

Catch Saturday Night when it comes to cinemas on Oct. 11.
