Bandai Namco is currently marketing the release of the next entry in the Tekken franchise, and though we’ve gotten a good look at the fighters and gameplay, we have yet to get an update on the lore.
Confusingly enough, the series has managed to hire none other than Emmy-winning Succession actor Brian Cox to update you on three decades’ worth of Tekken lore. Watch this:
Though it does seem silly to have Cox promote a fighting game franchise, a lot of fans have pointed out that the toxic relationship between three generations of Heihachi, Kazuya, and Jin mirrors the one in Succession—making Cox the perfect actor to try and explain all of this silly lore.
Nevertheless, fans are having a blast with Cox walking through green screen and giving us an intricate explanation of the history of the Devil Gene. Here’s what they’ve been writing:
1) What is happening?
2) This is fantastic
3) Solid pronunciations of character names here from Brian Coxhttps://t.co/hSvyh9HcnE— Tamoor Hussain (@tamoorh) January 9, 2024

With Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter having just launched new mainline entries last year, Tekken is the next franchise up to bat. Bandai has been making steady reveals of all the characters that will be appearing over the past few months, so you can imagine that a lot of fans can’t wait to finally get their hands on this game after all that anticipation.
We don’t know if Bandai has any more big reveals about the game that they can show in the next few weeks, and we’ll just have to wait and see if they still have anything else up their sleeves.
Tekken 8 is set to launch on Jan. 26 for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S.
