There has been a resurgence of racing movies with films like Gran Turismo and Ferrari, and now Brad Pitt is jumping in on the hype with the director of Top Gun: Maverick Joseph Kosinski.
Check out the trailer for F1:
Here’s the synopsis:
From Apple Original Films, “F1” stars Brad Pitt as a former driver who returns to Formula 1, alongside Damson Idris as his teammate at APXGP, a fictional team on the grid. The feature is being shot during actual Grand Prix weekends as the team competes against the titans of the sport.
Besides Pitt, the movie also features stars Javier Bardem, Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Samson Kayo, and Kim Bodnia.
Probably the biggest hook of the movie is that the racing scenes are being shot practically. A lot of critics were wowed by how Top Gun: Maverick was able to shoot practical scenes with their planes—now they’re doing the same thing on the ground with cars.
Jerry Bruckheimer, whose attached as a producer for the movie said this about the film, “You’ll see the cameras come out all over the car, the shots you’ve never seen speed, you’ve never seen G forces like this, it’s really, really exciting.”
With the Top Gun sequel being as huge as it is, it does seem like F1 is trying to capture that same kind of spark. Let’s just hope that Pitt has the charisma to pull off an older driver coming out of retirement to race cars with the young’uns.
F1 is set to release next summer June 27, 2025.
