The WGA Strike may have effectively delayed the final season of Stranger Things, but Netflix has one tie-in game that they just launched and should be perfect for fans who enjoy tabletop games.
Check out the launch trailer for Stranger Things: Upside Down by Rob Daviau:
Here’s the official description for the game (via CMON):
Hawkins, Indiana seems like an average town. However, underneath the exterior lurks a secret. The Hawkins National Laboratory has been doing experiments that have unleashed the horrors of the Upside Down. It’s up to the kids in the town to save it.
In Stranger Things: Upside Down, players take on the role of the kids of Hawkins who are trying to stop the operatives of the Hawkins National Laboratory and the evils from the Upside Down. Players must work together to clear stacks of tokens before time runs out. The game offers 2 seasons of play.
The trailer doesn’t really go into specifics when it comes to the details, but it does give audiences an idea of how extensive of a video game it is, with tokens and cards, locations, and characters. In true Dungeons & Dragons fashion, we also get some miniature figures of each of the kids, including the OG Stranger Things villain, the Demogorgon.
With the game covering the first two seasons, I think there is plenty of room for a sequel following the story of Vecna; but I guess we’ll just have to wait and see how the release of Upside Down will fare.
Stranger Things: Upside Down is now available at select retailers. Watch out for the final season of Stranger Things when it premieres on Netflix sometime in 2024.
